Belmar is located in Southern Monmouth County and its main attraction is its beaches.  Thousands of individuals vacation and visit the town each summer, enjoying the beaches, ocean, restaurants, and bars.  The town attracts significant tourism and conducts a large seafood festival, a professional beach volleyball tournament, and a summer concert series.  The town also boasts one of the largest St. Patricks Day Parades in the North East.  Belmar has a reputation for possessing a vibrant night life and, given the high consumption of alcohol associated with the tavern business and the large number of young adults visiting the town, Belmar issues a significant number of DWI summonses and other alcohol related offenses every year.

The municipalities surrounding Belmar include Avon, Bradley Beach, Spring Lake, Lake Como, and Wall Township. Its major roadways are State Highway 34, State Highway 138, State Highway 35, Route 71, and Route 18.  Highway 71 is a major artery along the beachfront communities in southern Monmouth County.
